Michelle “Mickey” Katz is the founder and principal attorney of the Law & Mediation Offices of Michelle Katz, with offices in Los Angeles, California. She offers comprehensive, personalized family law counseling and services to clients in Los Angeles, as well as statewide and nationally. She concentrates her practice on helping clients resolve disputes related to divorce and other family law matters. She is an experienced mediator and advocate who is committed to achieving meaningful solutions for her clients through collaborative law, mediation, and other non-litigation conflict resolution methods.
Experience and Education
Ms. Katz is an experienced family lawyer who has been counseling clients in family law matters for more than 30 years. A frequent speaker on mediation and collaborative law, her practice exclusively focuses in the area of divorce and family law dispute resolution through mediation and collaborative law. She also provides comprehensive counsel to clients entering relationship agreements, including pre-nuptial, post-nuptial, and cohabitation agreements. She is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
Ms. Katz began her undergraduate education at Cornell University, where she earned a B.A. in philosophy as well as an M.Ed. She went on to earn her J.D. from Mid Valley College of Law and became a member of the California Bar shortly after. She has been certified by the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization as a Specialist in Family Law since 1984. She has also undergone hundreds of hours of training in alternative dispute resolution, including training with Gary Friedman at the Center for Mediation in Law and with Roger Fisher and Robert Mnookin at Harvard Law School.
Honors and Associations
Ms. Katz is an active member of the legal community who regularly contributes her efforts to improving the legal profession. Since 2009, she has been a fellow of the American Bar Foundation and Membership Chair and Council member of the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution. She is a co-founding member of the Los Angeles Collaborative Family Law Association, as well as Past-President and board member of the California Dispute Resolution Council (CDRC), a state-wide organization promoting best practices in dispute resolution. She has also been an active member of several State Bar of California committees and sections, including the Executive Committee of the California State Bar Family Law Section. She was chair of the Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution of the California State Bar.
Ms. Katz has received numerous awards and professional distinctions during her career. She has been named a Best Lawyer in America by US News and World Report since 2009 and was named 2015 Lawyer of the Year in Family Law Mediation. She has been a Southern California Super Lawyer in Family Law since 2009.
